2016 Ranked Seasons | Updated

Here is the updated season’s rankings…all 212 of them. Yep, we’ve officially played 212 seasons in this league. If you finished among the top-53, congratulations, you either won a championship or delivered an elite season that failed to deliver a mug. If your season is ranked between 54-106, be proud. You made the playoffs. You are either a average team that produced a ton of wins or a great team that couldn’t quite catch a break. If you finished 107-159, half of you probably didn’t make the playoffs and if you did, you didn’t win a post-season game. If you finished 160-212, then don’t brag.

2016 Team Rankings:

#5 Rich Calderon (361.3 points)
Last year, Griff produced the fifth best season ever. This season, Calderon topped it and his 2016 was the fifth best season ever, behind only Bob ’14, Matt ’09, Robio ’99 and Jason ’01. Rich would have been the third best if it wasn’t for failing to earn the top seed (missing out on a +5 bonus) and suffering one score under 1,000 (a -2 point bonus).

Anyhow, he won nine games during the season and averaged a solid 1,532 PPG. His 5,312 points in the postseason where the third most ever scored and his 24,233 total points scored was the second most ever. He finished with four weekly high scores and nine 1,500-point games, including all three playoff games.

#9 Jeff Greenblatt (333.9)
For the first time in his career, Jeff cracked the top-50 and he did it in style, finishing with the 9th best season ever and the second best season for a team that failed to win the championship. Bob’s 2015 remains the best non-title team ever.

Jeff earned 11 wins and missed averaging 1,500 points per game by just eight fantasy points (or a four yard gain by a RB/WR. He earned the top seed behind three weekly high scores and eight total 1,500-point games (one in the postseason). He also went a league best 5-3 against the top half of the league. He did fail to score 1,000 once, in the playoffs, which cost him -3 points in my rankings system.

#70 Don Vozzola (237.5 points)
As you can see, there was a big drop off from Calderon and Jeff to the rest of the league, but producing the 70th best season in Robioland football history is still pretty solid. In fact, this was Don’s fourth greatest season, one spot ahead of his 2006 title run.

He won nine games, winning six straight after a 0-2 start. He averaged 1,290 points per game, his most since the 2011 season. He never had a weekly high score, but also never had a low. He only had one game over 1,500, but never dipped below 1,000.

#75 Rob Masterson (236.2 points)
For the sixth straight year, Masterson walks away with a successful season, despite the lack of a playoff run. He won a solid eight games, after a league best 5-0 start. He averaged 1,387 points per game, the third most behind Calderon and Jeff. He earned the four seed, delivering one weekly high score and three 1,500-point games. He would have easily had the third best season in 2016, but his squad shit the bed in the quarterfinals, scoring just 745 points, which knocked him down a few spots.

#82 Robio Murray (232.7 points)
After two dismal seasons, I’ll celebrate producing the 82nd best season in Robioland. I started 4-0, lost six in a row, before winning two of three, becoming just the second person to lose six straight and crash the postseason party (where I eventually lost to Jeff in the semifinals). I finished the regular season with just six wins, but my 1,358 points per game was the league’s fourth best. I had no high scores, suffering two weekly lows (although avoided dipping below 1,000 all season). I did manage four games over 1,500 (coming up just six points shy of scoring 1,500 in my two playoff games).

#85 Bob Castrone (231.0 points)
How good has Bob been in this league? He produced eight wins in the regular season and reached the semifinals, yet this was his fourth worst season of his career. Got that? His fourth worst season out of 14 is the 85th best in this league’s history.

This year, he never earned a weekly high score (the first time that’s happened since 2011) and produced two weekly lows (for the first time since 2012). He struggled to score, only averaging 1,270 PPG (1oth in the league) and failed to hit 1,000 twice, but he still managed to go 5-4 against the top-six in the league. The five victories against he top-six is tied with Jeff for most in 2016.

#114 Eric Vozzola (206.2 points)
Eric finished with six wins, averaging 1,308 points per contest, earning the 7-seed. He finished the year with only two games over 1,500, but one was a high score. He never dipped below 1,000, but did get one weekly low score. He went a poor 2-6 against the top-six teams.

#121 Richard Burrier (197.7 points)
Rich’s 2016 was all over the map. He finished with six wins and made the playoffs, despite averaging 1,273 PPG, ninth in the league. He also rocked out four games over 1,500, but then failed to hit 1,000 twice (once in the playoffs). He earned a pair of weekly high scores, but also earned three weekly low scores. He only went 2-5 against the top-six teams.

#130 Colby Hall (189.5 points)
While one can make a good argument with the way this team was playing down the stretch, that this was the best team ever to miss the playoffs, the statistics used to making these rankings, say Colby’s 2016 was the second best team not to make the playoffs, behind Neatock’s 2013. Colby finished with five wins after a brutal 1-8 start. He averaged a solid (for most years) 1,335 PPG. He had one weekly high score, one weekly and while he failed to hit 1,000 twice, he scored over 1,500 a stunning five times.

#149 Griff Coomer (172.6 points)
This season proved to be Griff’s fourth worst season in Robioland and the third worst title defense in league history. This was his first losing season since 2008 (which was also the last time he failed to qualify for the playoffs). This is the fourth time he won just four games. Oddly enough, Griff has never finished a season 6-7. Anyhow, he did manage one weekly high score, breaking 2,000 fantasy points, but that proved to be the only time he hit 1,500. While he avoided falling below 1,000 or earning a weekly low score, he went a stunning 0-8 against the top-six teams in 2016.

#166 Molly Coomer (161 points)
Molly’s 2016 was her third worst season, a step up above her 2009 and 2010 campaigns. Averaging 1,250 points per game, she had no high scores, although she did manage to crack 1,500 three times. She finished the year with two weekly lows and failed to hit 1,000 three times. She went 2-4 against the top-six.

#190 Matt Neatock (138.5 points)
This proved to be Matt’s second worst season ever in Robioland (2008 was his low point). Sure, his points were awful, averaging 1,245. He’s done worse than that five times. However, his two victories were a career low. He had no high scores, two lows and went 0-7 against the top-six in the league.

The Formula

POINTS: The most important thing in my book is scoring…points are more important than wins. So I take your total points and divide it by 10 (Burrier scored 1,410 in 2003, so he got 141 points). If you earn the scoring title, you get ten bonus points.

WIN-LOSS: Because we have five seasons of 14 games, I don’t want them to benefit from playing more games, so what I do is subtract your loses from 13 games, what ever number you end up with, I multiple it by 10. So in 1999, I went 11-3, so I subtract by 3 loses from 13 (not 14), so I get 10×10 and that’s 100. Prior to this I did winning percentage, but no more. I wanted to give a little bit more reward for winning, although scoring is still the most important.

SEEDING: Since we eliminated divisions, I’m rewarding bonuses for seeding. If you’re the top seed, you get 8 bonus points. The second seed gets 4, the third seed gets 2 and the 4-seed gets one bonus point. You’re welcome.

HIGH’S & LOW’S: To help separate the teams, I offer rewards for the little things and knock points off for the little naughty things. You get +2 for every weekly high score and -2 for every weekly low score. In 2009, Bob had three high scores and one low score, so he got four bonus points.

1,500 & 1,000 POINTS: Scoring over 1,500 is a solid mark, while failing to hit 1,000 makes you a loser (usually). So if you score 1,500 or more in a game, you get +2 points. If you fail to hit 1,000, you lose -2 points. However, I also give you another bonus point if you hit 1,500 in the playoffs, but lose another point if you fail to hit 1,000 in the post-season. In 2002, I got ten 1,500-pt games (three were in the post-season) and two low scores, so I got 23 bonus points for the 1,500, but lost four for the games below 1,000.

TOP HALF: One last bonus prize…I reward you for beating the best of the best. I take your record against the top-six (based on points) in the league. If you win two more games than you lose, you get two points. If you go 6-2 against the elite, you get +4 points. Molly went 5-2 in 2002 against the elite, so she got three points. However, if you don’t do well, I do not punish you. So when Don in 2001 went 1-6, he just got zero.

PLAYOFF POINTS: Basically what I’ve done to increase the importance of the post-season, I take what you scored in the post-season and divide it by 10. So if you lose in the first round, but score well, you’ll get more points if you score shit. Masterson scored 1,709 in a first-round loss this season. He got 17.9 for this, while Eric also lost, but he got 10.3 (for scoring 1,029). So that’s it. If you go to the semis, you get two weeks worth of points and if you go to the finals, you get three weeks worth of points. Lastly, if you win it all, you still get that 20-point bonus.

THE CATEGORIES ARE: Record (Regular Season Record), PPG (Regular Season Points), Div. (Divisional Record), Post (Playoff record), POP (Playoff Points), Hi’s (Weekly High Scores), Low’s (Weekly low scores), Top (Record against the top-six that season), 1,500+ (Games scored over 1,500) and 999-0 (Games scored below 1,000).
