Everyone has a favorite foe. Who is yours? Entire history is HERE.
ROBIO’S FAVORITE FOE: Griff Coomer | 21-12 (.636)
My 21 victories over the true Florida man is the most one person has over another, as our 33 career matchups also lead the pack, which makes since we’re the last two of the original eight. Anyhow, I dominated Griff early on, winning seven of our first eight meetings, including the first two title games. Coomer would win 11 of the next 20, but I have won five straight dating back to winning a pair in 2019.
GRIFF’S FAVORITE FOE: Eric Vozzola | 19-12 (.613)
Coomer will be aiming for his 20th career victory over any opponent when he faces Eric in week 11. However, he’s been trying to do that since 2020, as Eric has actually won four straight in this series. Still, Griff has two great stretches against Eric. The first was when he won six straight between 2004-2006. In those three years, Griff swept Eric in two games in each season. Then between 2010-2016, Griff beat Eric in nine straight games. However, since 2017, Eric has taken six of eight.
DON’S FAVORITE FOE: Richard Burrier | 17-10 (.630)
Don only has a winning record against two people and he’s done really well against those two. He’s 18-12 against his son, although Eric beat him twice last season. However, his career .600 winning percentage against Eric is second to his .630 win percentage against Burrier. It wasn’t always like this. In fact, in their first 15 games, Burrier led the series, 9-6. However, since 2015, Don has beaten Rich in 11 of their last 12 meetings. Because that one defeat came last year when they faced off twice and Don won the first matchup, officially, Don has beaten Burrier for 12 straight seasons. His 10 straight wins over Rich between 2015-2022 is the longest by one team over another in league history.
ERIC’S FAVORITE FOE: Richard Burrier | 17-9 (.654)
For whatever reason, the Vozzola clan loves facing Burrier. In fact, Don and Eric are a combined +15 against Rich and -72 against everyone else. Anyhow, officially, Eric’s best record is against Michael, thanks to a .750 winning percentage (3-1), but four games isn’t a resume. Thus, I’m honoring his .654 win percentage against Rich. There’s never been one dominant stretch for Eric over Rich. In fact, he’s only had one four-game winning streak over him (2012-2014). He has won four of the last five dating back to 2019.
ROB M’S FAVORITE FOE: Jeff Greenblatt | 12-8 (.600)
Masterson has never really dominated anyone. He has a winning record against only five teams and the only other team he is +4 against is Matt (15-11). So, his .600 winning percentage is his personal best, although the lowest by a team on this list. He did dominate Jeff early, taking his first three against Greenblatt and eight of their first ten matchups. However, between 2017-2020, Rob would lose five of six to Jeff, before rebounding and winning the last three games.
RICH B’S FAVORITE FOE: Colby Hall | 16-10 (.616)
Again, I’m going to avoid having anyone’s favorite foe being Mike. Five games doesn’t tell us a proper story. If it did, then Rich’s 4-1 record against Evangelist would be impressive. For now, we’re going with Colby. Burrier is a solid 16-10 against Mr. Hall. After losing their first matchup back in 2004, Rich would go on to win four of the next five games. He wouldn’t lose to Colby two games in a row until 2010-2011. However, Burrier’s best stretch against Colby was 2015-2021, when he took seven of eight contests.
RICH C’S FAVORITE FOE: Colby Hall | 19-6 (.760)
Colby really hates the Rich. Overall, he’s just 16-35 against Burrier and Calderon. That’s -19. He’s +8 against the rest of the league. Calderon in particular has dominated Colby in his career, winning a stunning 76% of their matchups. He swept him twice in Colby’s first two years in the league, eventually winning their first six contests and going 10-1 in their first 11 and 11-2 in their first 13 meetings. Colby actually won two in a row in 2014-2015 and had won three of four if you include 2016. However, Rich has begun to dominate again, having won seven of the last eight contests, which includes a three-sweep in 2020.
BOB’S FAVORITE FOE: Don Vozzola | 20-7 (.741)
Castrone has many favorite foes. He’s 17-10 against Colby, 18-12 against Matt, 19-8 against Burrier and he’s beaten me 20 times (20-10). With his 20-7 record against Don, Bob is the only person in league history to have 20 wins against two different opponents. Bob had a modest start against Don, winning four of seven, but one of those defeats was in the 2006 playoffs. Beginning in 2009, he won five straight before falling to Don in week one of the 2012 season. The rematch later that year is when the fun begins. Bob would go on to win eight straight against Don (tied for third longest win streak against one foe). At that point, Bob was 17-4 against Don, but since 2019, these two have actually split their six games after Don won this season’s week two matchup.
MATT’S FAVORITE FOE: Jeff Greenblatt | 14-4 (.777)
While Neatock only has a winning record against three opponents, his .777 winning percentage against Jeff is the highest among “veteran” teams. His career series with Jeff began with a defeat in 2003, but when Jeff went solo again in 2009, Matt had his number. He would win eight straight against Greenblatt (tied for third longest win streak against one foe). Jeff would end that streak in week 13 of the 2015 season and defeat Matt again in 2016. However, Neatock has regained the upperhand, taking five of the last six meetings.
COLBY’S FAVORITE FOE: Robio Murray | 16-9 (.640)
Colby’s favorite foe heading into the season was Don, who he had beaten 14 times in 22 meetings. However, with a victory over me in week one, I crept ahead of Don, thanks to Colby’s .640 winning percentage. Colby would lose his first matchup against me in 2004, but then he would dominate the next four, before falling to me twice in 2008, including the semifinals that year. Yet, over the next decade, Colby would easily put me away often, winning 10 of the next 12 games. Starting in 2019, things started to swing though, beginning with a pair of losses that year. Since that season, Colby is just 2-4 against me.
JEFF’S FAVORITE FOE: Richard Burrier | 14-8 (.636)
Burrier shows up on this list as a favorite foe three times. Jeff has a winning record against five total teams, but only one is more than +2 in the series. Jeff and Burrier’s series was an odd one at first. In Jeff’s first season, Burrier swept him in two. Fast forward to 2009 and Jeff swept Rich in two games that year. Yet, in 2010, Rich swept him again in a pair of contests. In fact, through 2014, Rich actually led the series, 6-4. However, between 2015-2020, Jeff would go on to win the next nine matchups, which is the second longest streak one team has over another in league history. This streak includes a pair of playoff wins. However, that streak ended in 2021 and Burrier, after sweeping Jeff twice last year, had won three in a row, before Jeff beat him in week two of this season.
MICHAEL’S FAVORITE FOE: Griff Coomer | 5-0 (1.000)
Perfection. Like I once said before, Evangelist has never known a Griff who once dominated, making the title game his second home. He’s only known Shit Griff and it shows as Michael is the only person to be undefeated against another team. Yes, it’s only five games, but that’s still zero losses and even if he loses to Coomer this season, he would still have the highest win percentage over one opponent. That matchup will be in week eight.
