Below are the teams that you have had the most success beating again and again and again, plus your least favorite foe and everything else you need to know.
MOST COMMON OPPONENT
Rich Calderon: We’ve been blessed with a Rich vs Rich matchup a total of 32 times.
TOP THREE FAVORITE FOES
#3 Robio Murray – Technically Rich has more wins over Griff Coomer (15-13), but his win percentage is slightly higher with me, thanks to a 14-12 record. The series began with losses, as Burrier dropped his first three games against me. However, between 2004-2009, he dominated winning seven of eight games; although that one defeat was in the 2005 quarterfinals. In 2010, he was swept by me and then we spent the next 10 years rotating wins and losses. Since the 2010 season, Burrier is just 7-8 against me.
#2 Colby Hall – This probably belongs at the number one spot, as his 16 career victories over Colby are the most Burrier has over one opponent, but we’ll settle for the two spot this season. Rich lost his first matchup against Colby back in 2004, but then won three straight. From 2006-2011, Colby took three of seven and then won back-to-back games in 2013 and 2014, giving Rich an 8-7 lead in the series. Yet, from 2015-2021, Burrier dominated, winning four in a row and seven of eight contests. Colby got back on track taking three of the last four, including a 2022 semifinals victory. As of today, Burrier leads the series, 16-11.
#1 Michael Evangelist – The resume is small, but the dominance is not. After losing his first ever meeting in 2019, Burrier has bounced Michael five straight games, including the 2020 quarterfinals. The five straight victories are tied for the second most Rich has over one opponent.
LEAST FAVORITE FOE
A few teams deserve consideration for this spot. Burrier is only 11-16 against Matt, who once won five in a row and has taken five of the last six meetings. Jeff is a solid 15-9 against Rich, after winning nine straight against him starting in 2015 and ending in the 2020 semifinals. Eric can lay a claim as Rich’s least favorite foe thanks to a 17-10 record. Eric has delivered three 3-game winning streaks over Burrier since 2008, while Rich has never won three in a row over Eric.
However, Rich’s toughest foe is the one and only, Bob Castrone. Burrier is just 9-19 against Bob, even though Rich actually won four of their first five meetings in this league. However, between 2007-2021, Bob owned Rich, going 18-3, including four playoff games (all loses). For his career, Rich has a four-game, five-game and a seven-game losing streak to Castrone. Having said that, Rich might have righted the ship, having beaten Bob the last two seasons.
FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT
Burrier has gone 2-0 against three folks in this league. He’s done it against Matt, defeating him in both the 2003 and 2011 quarterfinals. He’s also 2-0 against Calderon, which is surprising, as he’s just 12-18 against him in the regular season. He defeated the other Rich in the 2003 semifinals, then 20 years later, beat him in the 2022 quarterfinals. Yet, let’s name Griff Coomer as his favorite postseason opponent. Like the others, Rich is 2-0 against Griff, but one of those wins was a title game back in 2003. The other was the 2010 quarterfinals.
LEAST FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT
Rich has faced off with every current team in the playoffs at least once and of those eleven, he has failed to secure a single postseason win against seven of them. However, no one has beaten Burrier more than Bob Castrone. The four-time champion is 4-0 against Burrier, beating him in the 2011 title game, then the 2015 quarterfinals, 2017 quarterfinals and the 2021 quarterfinals (which was Bob’s last postseason victory).
LONGEST WINNING STREAKS
Rich has a pair of 5-game winning streaks. He beat me in five straight back in 2006-2009. However, he’s currently riding a 5-game winning streak against Michael Evangelist.
LONGEST LOSING STREAKS
Unfortunately, Rich is the only person in league history to have two 9+ game losing streaks to one opponent. He lost to Jeff in nine straight back in 2015-2020 (which included two postseason games). More recently, he lost 10 straight games (tied for longest in league history) to Don between 2015-2022. During that streak, Rich produced five weekly low scores.
