Quarter Century | Jeff Greenblatt’s Foes

Below are the teams that you have had the most success beating again and again and again, plus your least favorite foe and everything else you need to know.

MOST COMMON OPPONENT

Richard Burrier: Jeff and Rich have faced off 24 times.

TOP THREE FAVORITE FOES

#3 Robio Murray & Michael Evangelist – I’m putting two names here because Jeff has a winning record against only four teams and he’s +1 against Mike and I. Officially, his .571 winning percentage over Michael is higher than his .528 winning percentage over me, but the fact he’s beaten me more times than I’ve beaten him through 21 games is more impressive. Jeff beat me in our first two meetings, before falling in our next three games. We split our next six, before Jeff took care of business between 2016-2020. During that time, he won five of six, including two playoff games. Since then, I’ve beaten him in three of our last four meetings.

#2 Eric Vozzola – Jeff is 12-10 against Eric for his career. He dominated early, winning their first two meetings and going 9-3 through 12 games. Then Greenblatt went cold between 2017-2021, dropping six straight, ending with a title game defeat in 2021. However, he’s rebounded lately, defeating Eric in three of the last four, including two straight heading into the 2024 season.

#1 Richard Burrier – This is the only team Jeff has sorta dominated, going 15-9 against Burrier. Good thing he’s the team he’s faced the most in his career. Anyhow, the series began with Burrier winning the first two, followed by Jeff taking a pair, before Rich won back-to-back games again. Between 2011-2014, they would split the next four and through seven seasons, Greenblatt found himself down 4-6. However, between 2015-2020, the two would face off nine times and Jeff would win all nine games, including the 2020 semifinals. Then Jeff cooled, losing three straight; getting swept in two in 2022, before getting revenge in 2023, beating Burrier in two games.

LEAST FAVORITE FOE

Matt Neatock has owned Jeff in this league. While Greenblatt would win their first meeting in 2003, since 2009, when he returned to face Matt in 2009 as a solo artist, there’s been no competition. Jeff would drop their next eight meetings, before winning back-to-back games in 2015 and 2016. Then Jeff would drop five straight. Heading into the 2024 season, he has lost seven of eight games, going 4-15 overall.

FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

Jeff only has multiple wins in the postseason against three teams. Burrier is one of those three and is the only one to never beat Jeff, who is 2-0 in their postseason matchups. He beat Rich in the 2016 quarterfinals (in a game neither scored over 1,000) and again in the 2020 semifinals (in route to his first career title). Yet, I’m going to put me, Robio Murray, as his favorite opponent in the playoffs. Our first postseason meeting was a Jeff defeat in the 2013 quarterfinals. However, since that day, Jeff has dominated me in the postseason. He defeated me in the 2016 quarterfinals and then earned his first championship in 2020 with a win over me. We met again the following year in the quarterfinals and Jeff escaped with a low scoring victory; improving his playoff record against me to 3-1.

LEAST FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

Because he’s only been to eight postseasons and only lost seven games, it’s hard to pinpoint a least favorite foe. In fact, he’s only lost to one team twice in the playoffs and that’s Rich Calderon, who he has also beaten twice. In 2009, Calderon escaped with a 60-point victory in the quarterfinals. Fast forward to 2016 and Calderon earned his second career championship by defeating 1-seed Jeff in the finals. However, these two met in the 2021 semifinals and last year’s quarterfinals and Greenblatt walked away with a win both times.

LONGEST WINNING STREAKS

Jeff’s second longest winning streak against one foe is just four games (against Masterson), which makes his nine-game winning streak over Burrier that more impressive. That streak ran from 2015-2020 and included both career postseason wins over Rich.

LONGEST LOSING STREAKS

Jeff once fell to Eric in six-straight games (2017-2021), but his longest losing streak is to Matt. Between 2009-2015, Neatock defeated Jeff in eight straight games; tied for the third longest losing streak against one foe in league history.
