Let’s Go Streaking

While we’re still months away from football starting, there is only so much Colby’s writing on Mediaite can truly entertain us. Speaking of, I’m still waiting to be hired as the official fantasy writer for that site. If anyone can find correlation between the potential drop in Mike Evans’ YAC totals to the fall of the Assad regime in Syria…it’s me. Let’s make it happen, Hall!
Speaking of Assad, his streak as Syria’s leader came to an end recently, so here are some of the league’s best streaks and who, if anyone, can challenge them…

LONGEST WIN STREAK

RECORD: 14 Straight Wins (Robio & Bob)
Bob and myself share this record of 14 straight wins. Oddly enough, we both accomplished this feat the same way, by losing our first game of a season (me in 2010, Bob in 2017). Then we both won fourteen straight games, before falling in the title game. Great Minds come up short alike.
NEXT UP: Micheal Evangelist
Obviously the only person who can enter 2025 with a chance to challenge this record is the defending champ. Dr. Evangelist will enter next season riding a four-game winning streak. To tie the record, he would need to start the season 10-0. Speaking of doctors…Mike isn’t our first official “doctor” in this league, as Griff in the early 90’s was known as Dr. Feelgood. You might think it was due to the pot he grew in his closet and was kind enough to share with others, but no. It was the handjobs. Just the handjobs.

LONGEST LOSING STREAK

RECORD: 10 Straight Defeats (Rob M & Rich B)
The record was once nine straight loses, held by five different people, until both Rob Masterson and Richard Burrier each lost ten straight games between the 2019-2020 seasons. Rob lost in the 2019 semifinals before starting the 2020 campaign with nine straight defeats. Burrier dropped his final seven games in 2019, then began 2020 with three straight defeats.
NEXT UP: Griff Coomer
Dr. Feelgood sat at 3-3 through six weeks in 2024, but never tasted victory again, losing eight straight games. Obviously we don’t know who will be on who’s roster next year, but Griff opens up the season facing Bob, Calderon and then the league’s defending champ (Mike), this record could fall. Anyhow, despite Griff’s past success in this league, he’s been known to have losing streaks. He has had at least a six-game losing streak six times in his career and he’s the only person to have two 9-game losing streaks. If he loses in week one in 2025, that will be a third.

1,000-POINT GAMES

RECORD: 62 Straight Games (Rich C)
Rich Calderon, between 2017 and 2021, scored at least a grand in 62 straight games. He failed to hit 1,000 in week two of the 2017 season. The next time wouldn’t be until week four of the 2021 season. The closest he came to scoring below 1,000 was when he hit just 1,073 in week four of the 2017 season.
NEXT UP: Jeff Greenblatt
Currently, three folks are the top-30 “longest 1,000-point game streaks” list. Griff is tied for 29th with 21 straight. I’ve gone 27 straight games, which is tied for the 15th longest streak (and the longest in my career). However, Jeff has the longest active streak, having topped 1,000 in 31 straight games, which is tied for 8th longest. Even if he makes it back to the title game and tops 1,000 in each game, he would still be 14 short of the record, but if he can enter the top-five if he can score over a grand in every regular season game.

1,250-POINT GAMES

RECORD: 25 Straight Games (Bob)
Scoring 1,250 used to be good, as it was considered the medium score in our league, but it’s not anymore. It’s actually over 1,300 now, but I still keep track of this stat. The king of the 1,250-point streak is Bob, who once scored at least that much in 25 straight games over a two-year period. In those 25 games, he actually went 22-3, so scoring that much mattered at least in 2014-2015.
NEXT UP: Robio Murray
I ended the 2024 season scoring at least 1,250 in eight straight games. That’s tied for 24th longest streak. If I reach the title game and score at least 1,250 in every game, I can tie Bob. Is that possible? It’s only happened once, when I did it in 2019 with the greatest team ever assembled.

GAMES WITHOUT A WEEKLY LOW SCORE

RECORD: 80 Straight Games (Rich C)
We all know this record nearly got matched, when Bob went 79 weeks without a weekly low score, starting in 2018, but in the final game of the 2023 season, Bob’s record setting playoff streak (16 seasons) came to close when he scored just 884 points in a defeat to Eric. It was the lowest points scored that week and Bob would need to settle for second longest streak, one back of Calderon. Rich’s streak began his first season in the league. He produced a weekly low score in week seven in 2003, but wouldn’t do it again until week eight of the 2009 season. Calderon has scored a weekly low score in only 4.5% of his games for his career, which remains the lowest among all league members.
NEXT UP: Rob Masterson
Obviously no one is close to breaking this record. In fact, only two people have active streaks that are among the top-45 on this list. I’m riding a 27-week streak, which is the 41st longest in league history. Meanwhile, Masterson has gone 28 weeks without a low score. To break Rich’s record, Rob would need to avoid a weekly low score till week 11 of the 2028 season.

GAMES WITHOUT A WEEKLY HIGH SCORE

RECORD: 88 Straight Games (Griff)
Griff Coomer once went 88 weeks without earning a weekly high score. The streak stretched over seven seasons between 2016-2023. Oddly enough, when he broke the record, he broke a record he shared with Eric. They both went 59 games without a weekly high score.
NEXT UP: Don Vozzola
Don has the longest active streak, failing to earn a weekly high score for 27 straight weeks. This began in 2023. Don, the owner of the 4th and 5th longest streaks when he once went 59 weeks and later 56 weeks without a high score, won’t be breaking this record anytime soon. In fact, to break this record, he would need to not score a weekly high score until week six of the 2029 season.

GAMES WITHOUT SCORING 1,500-POINT

RECORD: 29 Straight Games (Eric)
Eric’s 2010 and 2011 seasons are considered the worst back-to-back seasons ever. He went just 3-23 in those two seasons, which makes sense, since he failed to score at least 1,500 in any of those contests. In 2009, the closest he got was 1,368 and 1,256 (which were his only two wins that year). The following season, he did hit 1,400 four times, but all were loses. However, the streak began in 2009, where he failed to hit 1,500 in his final three games.
NEXT UP: Griff Coomer
With scoring up, hitting 1,500 has become a lot easier, so this record is probably safe forever. The nearest to Eric is Griff Coomer, who has not sniffed 1,500 in his final seven games of the 2024 season. Even if Griff fails to score 1,500 in every regular season game this year, he would still be eight shy of Eric’s record.

POSTSEASON STREAK

RECORD: 16 Straight Seasons (Bob)
As we all know, Bob has the longest playoff streak in the league’s history. After missing the postseason in two of his first three years in the league, he would make it to the postseason every year beginning in 2006 and he wouldn’t miss it again until 2022.
NEXT UP: Rich Calderon
With Eric missing the playoffs last year, ending his playoff streak at nine seasons, Calderon was able to tie him and Masterson this last season at nine straight years. He enters the 2025 with the longest active streak, seven seasons behind Bob. The next nearest person is me at six straight.

MISSED PLAYOFFS STREAK

RECORD: 6 Straight Seasons (Eric)
Eric, who was just a boy when he joined this league in 2001, began his career avoiding the postseason. In fact, he would miss the playoffs his first six seasons in the league, which remains the longest streak in league history.
NEXT UP: Don Vozzola
The last time Don made the playoffs, the COVID-10 virus hadn’t even hit the United States. He’s gone five straight years without a postseason trip, settling for three last place finishes. If he misses the postseason this year, he’ll tie his son for the longest streak in league history. It’s always nice when you can keep things like this in the family.
