Quarter Century | Colby Hall Foe’s

Below are the teams that you have had the most success beating again and again and again, plus your least favorite foe and everything else you need to know.

MOST COMMON OPPONENT

Griff Coomer, Rob Masterson and Bob Castrone. Colby has faced all three 28 times each.

TOP THREE FAVORITE FOES

#3 Matt Neatock – Colby has gone 17-10 against Neatock, really only suffering through one bad stretch when he dropped four straight between 2016-2018. Other than that four year stumble, Colby has never lost to Matt in back-to-back games. He began his career against Neatock winning their first ever meeting in 2004 with a weekly high score. He would go on to win four of the first five games and by the time 2015 rolled around, Colby led the series 11-5. Then came that four-game losing streak. However, since 2019, Colby has won six of the last seven, which includes two postseason victories in the last two years (2022 Finals and the 2023 Semifinals).

#2 Don Vozzola – Colby has defeated Don in 15 of their 23 meetings. While Colby did win their first meeting back in 2004, Don had the upper hand early on, winning five of their first eight meetings. However, between 2010-2015, Mr. Hall won five straight and hasn’t looked back. Don has beaten Colby just three times since 2010 and never in back-to-back games. Since 2010, Colby is 12-3 against Don.

#1 Robio Murray – The first time we ever met, Colby not only lost to me, but he scored only 725 points. That game was not a sign of things to come. He would go on to win the next four games, including an awful 876-805 victory in 2007. Over the next eight games (2008-2013) we were even, splitting those games 4-4. However, Colby would dominate me between 2011-2018, taking eight of nine (including six straight at one point). I bounced back with a two-game sweep in 2019, followed by a third straight victory the following season, but since 2021, Colby has now taken three of four.

LEAST FAVORITE FOE

Colby has had his troubles with Griff over the years (12-16), especially in the postseason and his failure to overcome Burrier (11-16) is a bit shocking, but the biggest problem is the other Rich…Mr. Calderon. Colby is just 7-20 against Calderon for his career. It began poorly, as Colby dropped their first six games (tied for second worst start in a head-to-head matchup). In 2006, Colby secured his first win against Rich and between 2006-2014, Colby would dominate, actually taking six of seven games. However, Calderon would roll off a second 6-game winning streak over Mr. Hall, ending with a 2020 quarterfinals defeat. Over the last four years though, the two of them have split their four games.

FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

This one is easy, as Colby has gone 4-0 against Matt Neatock in the postseason. The playoff winning over Neatock began early in Colby’s second season in the league where he defeated Matt in the 2005 quarterfinals. Five years later, he did it again in the 2010 quarterfinals. They would go 12 years without facing each other in the postseason, until 2022 when they faced off in the finals. The game wasn’t even close, as Colby won 1,975 – 1,256. The following year, in route to back-to-back titles, Colby defeated Matt again, but this time in the semifinals.

LEAST FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

Bob has been a pain in Colby’s ass, beating him in their first three postseason meetings; including twice in the semifinals. After that 0-3 start to Castrone in the playoffs, Colby finally beat him in the 2015 semifinals.

Yet, Colby’s biggest postseason headache, even though it’s been a while since they faced off, remains Griff Coomer. These two have faced off six times and Colby has managed to win a single game. It started during Colby’s first season in the league, when Griff eliminated the highest scoring team in the league in the quarterfinals. The following year, the pair met in the finals and Griff dominated, winning 1,882 – 739, which remans the largest beat down in title game history. In 2011, Colby finally got his revenge, taking down Coomer in the quarterfinals, scoring 2,197 points in that contest. However, starting in 2013, these two faced off three straight seasons and all three years Colby lost, including back-to-back quarterfinals and then the 2015 title game.

LONGEST WINNING STREAKS

Colby once beat Don in five straight games (2010-2015) and he took down me in six straight (2014-2018), but Colby’s longest win streak against one opponent was seven straight against Masterson. He did that between 2007-2010.

LONGEST LOSING STREAKS

Colby has lost six straight to a foe three times. I’ve already mentioned the two 6-game losing streaks to Rich Calderon. However, he also dropped six straight to Griff, between 2013-2015 (again, with three of those coming in the playoffs).

WIN-LOSS RECORDS (PLAYOFF W-L)

Griff: 12-16 (1-5)
Don: 15-8 (0-1)
Eric: 13-11 (2-0)
Rob M: 16-12 (0-0)
Rich B: 11-16 (1-0)
Rich C: 7-20 (0-1)
Bob: 11-17 (1-3)
Matt: 17-10 (4-0)
Jeff: 8-8 (0-0)
Michael: 6-4 (2-0)

FUN FACTS

  • Colby is the only person to have two 6-game losing streaks against one foe (Calderon).
  • Thanks to his four postseason wins over Neatock, Colby is responsible for 40% of all of Matt’s playoff defeats.
  • Griff has only two championships in eight final appearances; both wins came against Colby.
  • Despite both being in this league since 2004, Colby and Masterson have never faced off the postseason. However, Colby has already faced Michael twice in just six seasons.
  • Colby has never scored a weekly high or a weekly low score in any game he’s played Bob in.
  • Against current opponents in the league, Colby has produced 12 weekly low scores. A quarter of them came against Matt.
  • Despite his struggles against Griff, Colby has four weekly high scores against him, which is the most against one team.
