Quarter Century | Eric Vozzola’s Foes

Below are the teams that you have had the most success beating again and again and again, plus your least favorite foe and everything else you need to know.

MOST COMMON OPPONENT

Griff Coomer: Eric and Griff have faced off 32 times, with his father a close second at 31 career games.

TOP THREE FAVORITE FOES

#3 Michael Evangelist – Unfortunately for Eric, he doesn’t have a winning record against a lot of opponents, so Michael earns a spot on this list. The pair have met six times and Eric has won four of their games. He won the first one in 2019 and has take the last two, including last season’s effort where Eric scored 2,153 points.

#2 Matt Neatock – Eric is 14-11 against Neatock for his career. He failed to win their first meeting back in 2003 and between 2003-2016, Eric managed to win back-to-back games only once (2004-2005). Through their first 16 meetings, Matt led the series, 9-7. However, sine 2016, Vozzola has taken control, delivering a pair of three-game winning streaks. Over the last nine games, Eric is 7-2, although one of those defeats was in the 2022 semifinals.

#1 Richard Burrier – Just like his father, Eric’s favorite team to pick on is Burrier’s squad. Overall, he’s 17-10 against Richard, having never dropped three straight at any point. Eric won their first meeting in 203 and through 2009, he was 6-3. He dropped two straight in 2010 and 2011, but then would win four in a row and seven of their next eight meetings. However, over the last eight games dating back to 2018, the pair of split the series 4-4.

LEAST FAVORITE FOE

There are three teams that Eric would do well to avoid if he could. Eric has suffered the most defeats to Griff, going 12-20 in their 32 career games. He once dropped nine straight to Coomer (2010-2016), which is tied for the second longest streak in league history. However, he did win four straight prior to last season.

Eric’s worst foes, based on win percentage are Robio Murray and Rich Calderon. Eric is just 10-18 against both of us (.357 winning percentage). Against me, Eric has just two winning streaks. He beat me in back-to-back games in 2007-2008 and then he won three in a row in 2014-2015. Currently he’s lost four straight to me, which is the longest active losing streak he has against any opponent. Against Calderon, Eric actually won four of their first six meetings, but then dropped six of seven between 2008-2013. Eric won back-to-back games against Rich for the second time in 2014-2015. However, since 2016, Eric has struggled against Calderon, going 3-10 in their last 13 contests.

FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

Eric only has seven career postseason wins over current teams in the league, but three of them came via Rob Masterson. Eric’s 3-0 against Rob n the postseason, beating him in the 2012 quarterfinals, 2021 quarterfinals and the 2022 quarterfinals. That 2021 game featured an 8-seed Eric shocking a 1-seed Masterson, 1441 – 1129.

LEAST FAVORITE POSTSEASON OPPONENT

While Eric is winless against both me and Colby (going 0-2 in the playoffs), he’s least favorite postseason foe is Matt Neatock. In three games, Eric has dropped all three games. He lost to him in the 2007 and 2009 quarterfinals (both seasons Matt went on to win it all) and then 2021, where Eric lost to Matt in the 2021 semifinals.

LONGEST WINNING STREAKS

Eric has a few 4-game winning streaks against Griff (2020-2022), Masterson (2021-2023), Burrier (2012-2014) and even Bob (2021-2023), but his longest is a six-game winning streak against Jeff in 2017-2021. The final victory in that streak was in the 2021 title game.

LONGEST LOSING STREAKS

While Eric has twice dropped five straight to an opponent (Masterson and Don), he once dropped nine straight to Griff between (2010-2016).

FUN FACTS

  • Despite only having a winning record against three people, Eric has the third best record against Bob, sitting one game under. Fact is, he’s been picking Castrone apart since 2019, winning seven of their last nine meetings.
  • Eric had back-to-back weekly low scores in his first two matchups against Colby, but none in his next 23 games. Colby has never had a weekly low score against Eric, but he has had four weekly high scores.
  • Eric has never delivered a weekly high score against me (or in his six games against Michael)
  • Among veteran teams (sorry Mike), Eric has never scored a weekly low score against one foe: Rob Masterson.
  • Eric has scored under a grand 41 times against the current teams in the league and has only pulled out two victories among those 41.
