Two Decade Ranking | #1 Bob Castrone

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them…this is the story of Bob Castrone.

The year 2005 was a troubling time. Hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana and flooded 80% of the city of New Orleans and their only hope was a former horse trainer named, Brownie. George W. Bush would begin his second term in office, thanks to Republicans like Don Vozzola, while Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were ruining Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Meanwhile, in Robioland Fantasy Football, Bob Castrone was missing the playoffs after a three-win season; a year so bad, there are still only 16 worst seasons, according to my calculation.

The previous year, Bob actually won the championship. However, it didn’t pass the smell test. Sure, he won 10 games and the division, but he was just 8th in scoring (third in his own division that featured four teams). In the title game, he escaped with a 47-point victory over Griff, after a late Trent Green interception ended Coomer’s week. Of course, it felt like a fluke because Bob had also missed the postseason in his rookie campaign, becoming the first person in league history to start a season 5-1 and not make the playoffs.

Yet, it was those two missed trips to the playoffs that proved to be the fluke. Since that uneventful 2005 season, Bob has crashed the playoff party for 13 straight seasons. Let me repeat that: 13 straight seasons. The dude has been a beast and a burden to the rest of us trying to earn some wins.

In Bob’s 16 years in the league, if we include both regular season and post, he has produced 12 winning seasons. Ten of those 12 were nine wins or more, thanks to a 11-3 record in the quarterfinals. Yet, as his playoff streak has continued on, like a fine bottle of Yoo-hoo, he’s only gotten better. His last five years, may be the best five years this league has ever scene. He’s gone 58-18 (.763) in that time, winning one title and falling in another championship game. In total, he’s third in title game appearances with five and tied with two others with four championships, winning it all in 2004, 2010, 2011 and 2014.
